Information about arranging travel for immigrants released to La AID in Shreveport, Louisiana (Church for the Highlands)
* If you received a text message from La AID (318-769-0852) that your family member or friend is on the preliminary list to be released from ICE Detention, please read the instructions below about transport options from Shreveport (click to choose your language). ICE will transport the immigrants to the church in Shreveport, LA on the morning of their releases. When your family member arrives here, they will call you.
* ICE will not send La AID the final list until the morning of the releases. (ICE has to do Covid tests first, and no one will be released if they have a positive Covid test).If you are able to buy a fully refundable plane, bus, or train ticket that leaves from Shreveport (SHV) after 2:30 pm on the date of their release, you can buy it now. If you do not have the option for a refundable ticket, you should wait until your family member calls you from the church to buy their ticket.
* If your family member has already called you from the church in Shreveport, you can buy their ticket now. Please read and follow the instructions below (click to choose your language).
* You do not have to pay for a taxi; we will transport your family member to the Shreveport airport or bus station when they have their ticket confirmation. We need to receive the plane ticket confirmation (Record Locator) 2.5 hours before the flight departure time or the bus ticket confirmation 1.5 hours before the bus departure time.
* If you cannot afford a ticket (most plane tickets cost between $450-$650 and bus tickets cost between $40-$300 depending on the destination), there is an option for a free plane ticket for asylum seekers.
* Or if there is a friend or family member who lives close to Louisiana, that person can drive to the church to pick up your family member here.
